Our wilderness programs have remained very popular over the years. Campers learn canoeing skills and rock climbing as well as reading topographic maps, compass work, camp craft, leadership, outdoor cooking and much more.

St. Croix White Water Canoe Trip* Session 1 & 2
Ages: 13-16 Dates: 7/11-7/14 Cost: $695

We depart camp in the morning for the Canadian Border and the St. Croix river for a 4 day white water canoe trip, designed to develop personal responsibility and self-reliance by contributing to a group effort.

White Water Rafting and Technical Rock Climbing Trip*

Ages: 10-17 Dates: 7/27-7/30 Cost: $495

We travel to Caratuk, Maine for a day of rafting on the Kennebeck river and an evening of technical rock climbing. This trip includes a hike to Moxie Falls, Maine’s largest waterfall.

Introduction To Wilderness Adventure
Ages: 10-14 Dates: 6/29-7/11 Cost: $1695

This program is designed to provide campers with a variety of outdoor experiences at a beginning to intermediate level of difficulty. Our program begins at our base camp at Camp Hawthorne. Campers learn canoeing skills, use of maps and compass, first aid, tent set-up and other outdoor skills. We then begin a two-day canoe trip on the Songo River. Campers return to base camp for one day before leaving for the Rangely Lakes region of Maine where we spend one day on a wilderness canoe trip on the Kennebago River and a day climbing Bald Mountain. We return to Camp Hawthorne for a day of rest and in-camp activities. Campers then leave for a day of technical rock climbing. Campers return to camp for our final banquet and dance.

Allagash Wilderness Canoe Trip
Ages: 13-17 Dates: 6/29 - 7/11 Cost: $1795

The Allagash is the best-known river in Maine, offering the ultimate in outdoor adventure with a combination of rivers, lakes, rapids and portages. It is also common to see moose and wildlife along the shore. Our trip begins at Churchill Dam and ends at the town of Allagash, on the northern tip of Maine. Campers test their white water skills on class 1,2 and short stretches of class 3 rapids. After 6 full days on the river, we drive to the coastal town of Boothbay to relax and prepare for a 2 day trip of saltwater canoeing on the Damariscotta River to Fort Island in East Boothbay. Campers then return to Camp Hawthorne for the final banquet and dance.
