The Latest News from Camp Hawthorne! This fall, Ron, Peter & Cullen transformed the boat house in a week-long frenzy of destruction and rebuilding. The old boathouse practically flew apart (some might say "fell down") after several mighty sledgehammer blows from Peter and Cullen.
Senior Architect and Project Manager Ron Furst designed and led thge construction of the new building, a graceful structure with a high roof and a woodstove. The new space is a great addition to camp and will be used for indoor activities and music rehersal. (See more pictures...) Hawthorne Adventure Program: The St. Croix This year we are offering a new program for campers who are looking for a challenge and want to experience the rugged beauty of Maine's wilderness.
Join us for this 10-day program that explores the St. Croix river, a 100-mile waterway tracing the border between Maine and Canada. Trip members learn how to plan and pack for an extended camping trip: canoeing techniques to negotiate rapids; and the basics of wilderness survival, cooking and teamwork. After completing the St. Croix, the team travels to the head of the Kennebeck river for a day of guided white-water rafting & rock climbing.
Asa Furst is offering guitar and performance lessons to past campers and friends in the greater Boston area. Asa is willing to drive to your home for afternoon or evening lessons during the week.
For more information call Asa at: 207-423-7142 or the camp office at: 207-363-1773. Here's a chance to perfect your performance for Joel's Coffee Haus or American Idol! Music from Joel's Coffee Haus - Online Diane Taylor was at it again this summer, recording music and stories from Joel's Coffee Haus and our campfires. We have uploaded these tracks to our site for you to enjoy and share with your family and friends. You can find the latest recordings at: http://www.camphawthorne.org/music

Camp Hawthorne will once again be offering the Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid certification course to our older campers. Kelsey Barrett, our waterfront director, is a Red Cross lifeguard instructor and has been certifying our staff for several years. The course requires strong swimming skills, but a Red Cross certification provides a wealth of opportunities for youngadults interested in waterfront, recreational and educational fields. This course will only be offered at Session 1 programs for campers age 15 and older. Off Season Rentals
